Putting Helena’s

Kids First

Hanna’s vision is for transparency and community involvement in the Helena School District’s decisions and to put the children and their education first.

“I am running for the Helena School Board because I believe in the power of education and its ability to transform lives. Our children deserve the best, and I am committed to ensuring they receive it. I am dedicated to bringing transparency and community involvement to decision making and a focus on putting kids first.”

Meet Hanna

I am a proud resident of Helena, Montana, and I'm deeply invested in our community. I'm passionate about education and believe that strong schools are the foundation of a thriving community. I grew up in the Hi-Line town of Rudyard, Montana. I have a degree in Accounting from Carroll College and attended the University of Montana for law school. I am currently a lawyer and involved in several local and state-wide non-profit organizations.  My mother was a public elementary school teacher for over 40 years, so I grew up in a classroom.  My husband and I have two children, one in elementary school in the Helena School District and the other in pre-school.

My Vision for Students:

  • Putting Kids First: Every decision I make will prioritize the well-being and educational success of our students. I am committed to creating a safe, inclusive, and enriching learning environment for every child in the district. Every child deserves a high-caliber education, which should be the main focus of the district.

  • Education Advancement: I will champion innovative approaches to education that prepare our students for the future. I will support policies that embrace critical thinking and a well-rounded curriculum.  I believe that teachers and an engaged school community make much more of an impact on students than technology and the age of the school buildings.

  • Fiscal Responsibility: The district is facing budget challenges. I believe that an innovated approach and fiscal responsibility are needed to get the district back on solid ground.

Join me in creating a brighter future for Helena's students! Learn more about my platform, get involved, and let's work together to make our schools the best they can be.

My Vision for Transparency:

  • I believe in open and honest communication. I believe that all decisions made by the School Board should be done through open conversations with the public.  I will work to ensure that school board decisions and processes are accessible and understandable to all parents and community members.

  • The Helena School District developed a Master Facilities Plan, which the District refers to as their “roadmap,” through a series of closed door meetings. There was no public participation in its development. There should be no “roadmap” for our schools that was created without public input.

  • Meetings and plans for the District should be done with public involvement, subject to Montana’s Constitution and Montana law. If a plan is developed with community involvement and support, there will be no reason to hide it.

I have been attending all School Board meetings for a few years, and have struggled with the Board’s lack of transparency. Most decisions seem to be made before they are even presented at the meeting and before the public gets input. This needs to change. I am committed to doing just that.
